Privacy Policy
Last updated October 18, 2026
KidsEatFree.today helps parents find restaurants where kids eat free or cheap. This policy explains what our website and our Android app collect, why, who else is involved, and the choices you have.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your email address, phone number or payment details.
- If you share your location, we use it to show you deals nearby. It isn't attached to a name or a profile.
- We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used.
- Restaurants may see totals, such as how many people opened their listing, but never who those people were.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't show ads from ad networks.
What we collect and why
Your location
When you open KidsEatFree.today, your browser or phone asks whether to share your location. If you say yes, we use it to find deals near you and to pick which featured deals to show. Each time deals load, your device sends its approximate coordinates to our server. If you say no, we show a default area instead, and you can still search by restaurant or town, or browse by city.
On the website, your browser also sends your coordinates to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to look up your town's name, which we show above the list.
When a search turns up no deals at all, we save that spot, rounded to roughly half a mile, along with the day of the week. It tells us where to add restaurants next. It isn't linked to you or your device.
Searches and taps
What you type into search is sent to our server to find matching restaurants. To learn which features are useful, we also record events such as searches, the day you pick, the restaurants you open, and taps on Call, Website and Directions. These go to Google Analytics, described below.
Deals you send us
If you use Add Deal, we store the restaurant name, the deal, the days it runs, and the name you enter, which is optional and defaults to "Anonymous." We use it to check the deal and add it to our listings. We don't publish your name.
Reports
If you report a deal as expired or wrong, we store the type of problem, any note you add, and a hashed (scrambled) form of your IP address. We use the hash only to ignore repeat reports of the same deal from the same connection within a day.
Restaurant activity
We count how often each restaurant's listing is opened, how often people tap Call, Website or Directions, and how many times each featured deal is shown and tapped. We may share these totals with the restaurant, for example in a report or an owner dashboard, so it can see how its listing is doing. They're numbers per restaurant, such as "42 Directions taps this week," and don't identify anyone.
Some deals at the top of the app may be featured placements that restaurants pay for.
Saved restaurants
Restaurants you save with the heart button stay on your own device. They aren't sent to our server.
Server logs and abuse protection
Like most websites, our server keeps logs of the requests it receives: the IP address, browser type, the page or data requested (for deal searches, that includes the coordinates your device sent), and the time. We also briefly keep track of how often each IP address sends requests, so we can stop floods and abuse. We use all of this to keep the service running and secure and to fix problems, and we delete logs on a rolling basis.
If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can reply and follow up.
Cookies and browser storage
Our own site doesn't set cookies. Google Analytics sets its own cookies, whose
names start with _ga, to tell visits apart. We also keep a few small
items in your browser's local storage, such as your saved restaurants.
Services we use
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) tells us how many people use the site, which pages and features they use, what kind of device they're on, and roughly where they are, to the city level. We don't send it your name or contact details. Google explains how it uses this data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can opt out with Google's opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies.
- Google Fonts (Google LLC) supplies the fonts on our pages, so your browser contacts Google, which sees your IP address, when it loads them.
- Cloudflare Turnstile (Cloudflare, Inc.) checks that the Add Deal form on the website is being filled in by a person rather than a bot. It runs only on that form, and it looks at your IP address and details about your browser.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation) turns your coordinates into a town name on the website, as described above.
- Google Maps opens when you tap Directions. What you do there is covered by Google's privacy policy.
- Hosting. Our server and database run on a hosting provider's computers. The provider stores the data for us and doesn't use it for anything else.
In the Android app
The app works like the website, with a few differences:
- It asks only for approximate location, never precise location. Android's location service, part of Google Play services, provides it.
- It looks up your town's name with Android's built-in geocoder, which on most phones is a Google service, instead of OpenStreetMap.
- It doesn't currently include Google Analytics or any other outside analytics or advertising tools. If we add one, we'll update this policy first.
How we share information
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only:
- with the services listed above, so they can do their part;
- when the law requires it, for example to respond to a valid court order;
- when needed to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or KidsEatFree.today;
- with a new owner, if KidsEatFree.today is ever sold or merged. The new owner would have to follow this policy for information collected under it.
Restaurants may also see the activity totals described above. Those are counts, not information about you.
How long we keep it
- Deal submissions and reports: as long as we need them to check and maintain our listings.
- Rounded no-results locations: as long as they help us plan where to add restaurants.
- Server logs: a limited time, then deleted on a rolling basis.
- Google Analytics data: according to the retention setting in our Google Analytics account.
- Emails: as long as we need them to handle your message.
Your choices
- Location. You can say no when asked, or turn location off for this site or app at any time in your browser or phone settings.
- Analytics. Use Google's opt-out add-on, block cookies, or use a content blocker.
- Saved restaurants. Tap the heart again to remove one. Clearing your browser's data for this site removes them all.
- Your information. Email us to ask what we hold about you, or to correct or delete a deal you sent or a report you made. Because there are no accounts, we may ask for details, such as the restaurant's name and roughly when you sent it, so we can find it.
- Do Not Track. Our site doesn't currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you rights to see, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to how it's used. Email us and we'll help, wherever you are.
Children
KidsEatFree.today is for parents and other adults. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
Everything between your device and our server travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to our server and database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect the small amount of information we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
